The Accounting Generalist supports the Controller's Office in the administration of the payroll functions for the College's staff, faculty and student populations. This position is accountable for the disbursement of payroll outputs (i.e. earnings, taxes, benefits and deductions), preparation of monthly payroll deduction remittances, reconciliations and outflow reports and ensuring the liability accounts and general ledger account balances. The Accounting Generalist will also support other areas within the Controller's office and be responsible for processing student refunds and reconciling employee credit card activity.

Specific Responsibilities
- Audit data submitted by departments to identify discrepancies requiring resolution. Perform balancing of earnings and deductions totals.
- Review monthly compensation and benefit expenses, perform variance analysis, identify issues and submit adjusting journal entries when necessary.
- Prepare third party reports for governmental agencies and vendors and submit to Payroll manager for authorization.
- Assist Payroll manager to prepare payroll and tax reports to Federal, State and local agencies.
- Initiate and complete the payroll processing cycle when needed.
- Process manual off-cycle check payments.
- Prepare weekly tax journal entries to offset general ledger.
- Assists in preparation of various audit requests related to payroll from outside agencies.
- Assist with fiscal year end gathering of documentation.
- Respond to various type of inquiries and correspondence; applying functional knowledge to analyze and respond to matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of department policies and procedures.
- Contact various department supervisors for any omitted data, forms or issues.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources and other departments to ensure all payroll related documents are received within established deadlines.
- Perform various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provide general ledger support.
- Ensure accurate and timely production of pay checks and deposits in the absence of the Payroll Manager.
- Process student refunds and assist with accounts receivable. Perform reconciliation of employee credit card activity and assist with accounts payable.
- Maintain high level of security and confidentiality of records and documents on behalf of the department and College, and adhere to record retention policies.
- Deliver quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful and courteous manner.
- Assist the with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with at least (2) years related job experience or an Associates with five (5) years of work experience in a payroll, accounting and/or finance function required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks with changing priorities required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills required.
- Ability to work as part of a team or individually required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents and information required.
- Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding and respect for a diverse academic environment inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds required.

Training:
The first 6 months will require training 2-3 days per week at the Northeast Campus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience in higher education experience preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of basic accounting principles and auditing procedures is required. Previous experience utilizing an enterprise-wide system, such as Banner, preferred.
- Experience with UKG Ready (Kronos) time and attendance system highly desired.
