Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution, and a member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications to fill an Assistant Professor tenure-track position of English in the Department of Humanities within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education ( CASE). Coppin is an urban residential Historically Black College and University ( HBCU) serving nearly 3,000 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. The candidate would teach English Composition I and II, Creative Writing, poetry, or fiction, African American, and Caribbean Literature. The candidate should have some records of published work.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching English Composition I and II, Creative Writing, Poetry or Fiction, African American Literature, and Caribbean Literature.
  • Holding conferences with students and keeping office hours.
  • Involved with student advisement.
  • Engage in Departmental and University activities.
  • Engage in recruiting for English majors.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • Doctorate degree required, significant graduate course work or terminal degree in Humanities-related discipline.
EXPERIENCE:
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to use different teaching modalities, face to face and Online teaching.
  • Demonstrate evidence of working with diverse populations of students in urban environments.
  • Work with students one-on-one to give additional help.
  • Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively on university-wide committees.
  • Motivate and engage students in class.
