High School Transition Specialist
Summary of Position
This position is designed to support ongoing educational assistance for all High School students, as well as serving as the primary staff liaison with colleges and programs that support higher education for Native Americans. In addition, this role assists current and former students with secondary education, military, or career/employment while transitioning to after high school. This is an exempt position.
Accountability
Reports to the 7th – 12th Residential Director
Core Responsibilities
- Supports and models the Catholic Mission and the Native American Culture that are the foundations of St. Joseph’s Indian School.
- Promotes a reclaiming environment for all students through the Circle of Courage.
Responsibilities
- Provides regular and on-going opportunities for High School students to receive career information, paving the way for future educational, vocational, employment and/or military pursuits.
- Assists with applications and scholarship/grant opportunities. Works with students and their guardians to complete the FAFSA.
- Assists with the implementation and instruction of the Independent Living Skills Curriculum and Job Skills Curriculum for High School students.
- Coordinates and plans college visits/experiences, military recruitment information, career days, job fairs, and work essentials programs. College visits may include weekends and overnights.
- Assists with the 8th grade student transition into the High School Program including visits with the 8th grade students regarding programs and assisting with the 8th grade selection process.
- Directly supervises the high school summer program to include the coordination of driver’s education, student summer jobs, staffing, the on-call schedule and other related duties.
- Provides regular contact and ongoing support (via phone, social media, in-person) for post-high school students with their transition into higher education or military. Will require travel.
- Works with former students in conjunction with the Alumni program to meet their needs and assist with career and educational goals.
- Establishes partnerships with identified programs and higher education institutions to benefit students through support, tutoring, fee reduction, etc.
- Provide outcome data as related to graduates from CHS/STJO.
- Immediately reports any type of abuse or neglect, suspected or alleged, as well as any serious accidents or illnesses affecting the student.
- Assumes rotating weekday and weekend on call duties for the 7-12 grade community.
- Completes other responsibilities as required by the 7th – 12th Residential Director.
