Summary of Position
The Substance Abuse Therapist is responsible for the development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of Drug & Alcohol Programming. The employee is an active participant in clinical service delivery. This is an exempt position.
Accountability
- Reports to the Counseling Services Director
Core Responsibilities
- Supports and models the Catholic Mission and the Native American Culture that are the foundations of St. Joseph’s Indian School.
- Empowers staff to be able to promote a reclaiming environment for all students through the Circle of Courage.
Responsibilities
- Develops and coordinates comprehensive drug and alcohol services for students at all developmental levels to include:
- Works with the Prevention Associate to provide Chemical Prevention Programming (i.e., Sobriety Celebrations, guidance classes, Red Ribbon Week, etc.).
- Maintains and evaluates screening and evaluation procedures for student chemical abuse/dependency and required documentation.
- Collaborates with Family Service Counselors in the provision of drug & alcohol programming and related individual and group counseling services.
- Provides training to staff in drug and alcohol programming and services.
- Develops and facilitates process groups, educational programs, individual sessions, and intensive outpatient and aftercare programs for students receiving drug and alcohol services (including AA/NA meetings when requested).
- Facilitates classroom guidance activities following the Standardized Guidance Program, as well as additional primary and secondary prevention activities. Assists with home enrichment activities as requested.
- Assists with crisis intervention services as requested and takes part in the on-call residential rotation for weekend coverage.
- Reports any case of physical, emotional or sexual abuse to the proper authorities and notifies the Counseling Services Director when a report is made.
- Completes other responsibilities as required by the Counseling Services Director.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (Counseling, drug and alcohol, related field)
- Chemical Dependency licensure preferred
- Computer literacy
Physical Demands
- Uses both hands and wrists repetitively for prolonged periods.
- Driving is required.
- Some supervision may require standing for prolonged periods.
Working Conditions
- Evenings and weekend hours are required
- Flexible schedule
- Some travel (driving) is required throughout the state
Compensation Range
