Job Description:


Empire State University is seeking applications for SUNY's PRODiG+ Post Doctoral Fellow in Early Childhood Education. This is a two-year, post-doctoral fellowship, with a reduced teaching expectation, mentoring, research support, and professional development to assist the fellow's development as a teacher-scholar in a comprehensive university setting.

The selected applicant will be knowledgeable about the foundations of early childhood education and/or childhood education with expertise in areas such as child development, special education, and learning requirements in core areas such as math, science, and English language arts. Furthermore, the ideal applicant should be prepared to develop and teach undergraduate curricula. The candidate must also have personal, academic, and/or work experience with inclusion, equity, and diversity, as well as a desire to promote and improve university-wide initiatives. Such experience might include an academic/scholarly track record in diversity, equity, and inclusion; a career, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or comparable experience/expertise in supporting underrepresented or marginalized communities.

The selected candidate will teach in the new early childhood education program which will be offered primarily in virtual modes, with some in-person advisement of teacher candidates required. Central to the faculty role is helping adults from diverse cultural backgrounds design and complete degrees that meet their personal and professional goals.

Preference will be given to candidates who are:
  • Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows.
  • From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • Doctorate in Early Childhood Education or related field from an accredited institution by the date of appointment.
  • Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/ or populations.
Additional required qualifications include:
  • Classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in learning standards and curriculum development in early childhood education.
  • Strong communication, computer, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with academic program development, innovative program delivery, and individualized programs.
  • Experience working with paraprofessionals in school settings.
  • Experience observing student teachers in their placements.
  • College level teaching experience.
  • Experience with Teacher Performance Assessment.
  • Experience with learning technologies, online teaching, and course development.
  • Experience mentoring and teaching non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to diversity issues in higher education and/or through community-based work.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly achievement.
  • Teacher certification in Early Childhood Education.
Special Information:
  • Occasional travel will be required to advise student teachers in their placements and to fulfill regional and university-wide commitments.
  • Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs.
  • Some evening and/or weekend engagement with students is required.
