Job Description Summary
The Research Specialist A will play a vital role in assisting the Research investigator with research work. A successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research experiments, ordering supplies and equipment, as well as maintaining accurate documentation of research work, such as DNA vector analysis, DNA extraction, RNA production, DNA/RNA qualification and quantification analyses, etc. The successful applicant will be expected to perform/support in vitro and in vivo analyses, animal work, and troubleshoot issues as they arise, to assist the research investigator and will need to use sound scientific judgment in their day to day activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Use advanced molecular biology techniques to amplify and sequence DNA constructs.
  • Use advanced molecular biology techniques to engage in mRNA amplification and manipulation such as in vitro transcription, RNA extraction, RNA analysis, RNA storage, quality control, etc.
  • Animal experiments including mouse and rat immunization, bleeding, dissection, imaging, etc.
  • Maintain a limited number of mouse colonies.
  • Perform ELISA, western blot, etc. Assist in Flow staining panels, immunological assays.
  • Maintain cell lines, cell transfection, etc.
  • Maintain supplies and reagents for projects in the team, lab environment maintenance.
  • Prepare data records, entry, and preliminary analysis.
  • Manage inventory registration, documentation, work report.
  • Follow regulations, and up-to-date training.
  • Participate in team/lab meetings, events, seminars, as required.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations including purchasing/ordering, package shipment, equipment maintenance.
  • Share lab duties as required.


CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • The ideal candidate will be curious and possess a strong desire to conduct vaccine research. Knowledge of biological processes and microbiological assays required.
  • Willing to conduct animal research (bleeding, injection, dissection, imaging, etc.).
  • Possess good problem-solving skills, and be able to work with members of a team.
  • Communication, writing skills, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Multitasking abilities and a high-level of reliability and dependability.
  • Excellent organizational record keeping skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Excel functions and Google sheets functions required. Use of data analysis software such as Prism is preferred.
