Post Doctoral Associate

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Drs. Koldamova & Lefterov in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health in the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. The successful candidates will become part of a large, multidisciplinary neuroscience and environmental health community and will have ample collaboration opportunities. The lab utilizes transgenic animals for modeling Alzheimer’s disease (AD); therefore, the applicants should have knowledge of the use of animals as a model system. The postdoctoral positions in the lab are supported by NIH grants with the goal of understanding the role of genetic and environmental risk factors for late-onset AD. Specifically, we are focused on the role of genetic risk factors APOE and TREM2 and physical exercise on AD pathogenesis. These projects require the integration of multiple techniques, including brain surgery and histological, molecular, and genetic analyses of pathological markers.

The candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology/Genetics, or Cell Biology/Physiology.

Knowledge and experience in molecular biology and biochemistry is a requirement. The application of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), including single-cell transcriptomics, is a substantial part of the work relevant to all projects in the lab. The position requires basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis using R and/or Python platforms, and experience with Bioinformatics tools and software packages necessary to analyze sequencing and mass spectrometry data. Experience with Unix/Linux and Mac OS is required and will be considered a plus.
