Job Summary

The Bennion Center's Service Corner Coordinators work closely with the Student Cohorts Program Manager on the day to day operational and administrative functions of the Service Corner. The Service Corner provides one-time and drop-in opportunities for community engagement while also supporting Bennion Center's small and large-scale events for the University of Utah community to meet one-time needs of different community partners.

The Service Corner Coordinator will also work at the Bennion Center front desk and/or the Bennion kiosk at Kahlert Village and will be responsible for welcoming other students, educating about Bennion Center opportunities, and providing exceptional customer service.

Applicants for this role will need to have availability M-F, 8-5, some weekends, and some evenings as Service Corner hosts weekly afternoon and evening events at Kahlert Village.

Responsibilities

Service Corner Coordinator duties will include:
  • Meeting with staff partners and coordinators regularly to make updates on projects, plan agendas, align schedules, etc.
  • Managing the email account and responding to volunteer interest forms within 48 hours.
  • Researching, identifying, and coordinating community-identified needs that can be met through the Service Corner drop-in programs, small or large events.
  • Organizing project materials and logistics for small and large projects hosted by the Service Corner, as well as keeping those spaces tidy (Bennion Center and Kahlert Village)
  • Assisting and leading out on Saturday Service Projects associated with the Service Corner, such as Legacy of Lowell, MLK Day of Service, Environmental Sustainability, etc.
  • Hosting occasional Service Corner Tutorial Sessions to teach projects for those who are new to the Service Corner (hat and scarf knitting, etc.)
  • Tracking and submitting monthly hours logs and other data of the Service Corner.
  • Researching and implementing new ideas for drop-in community engagement.
  • Oversee quality control of projects and materials produced (appropriateness of cards, stitches in hats, etc).
  • Attending regular meetings with the Marketing and Communications Director to strategize recruitment and promotion of the Service Corner opportunities.
Desk / Kiosk Attendant duties will include:
  • Serving as ambassadors for the Bennion Center at the Bennion Center Kiosk at the Gail Miller Community Engagement Tower (located at the Kahlert Village residence hall) and at the Bennion Center office in the student union.
  • Referring interested students to the appropriate Bennion Center programs and community engagement opportunities both on and off campus.
  • Maintaining inventory of supplies and needs at the kiosk and in the Bennion Center.
  • Guiding and instructing drop-in volunteers on available Service Corner projects.
  • Attendants will assist Bennion Center staff with other clerical tasks to help meet the
  • mission, vision, and values of the Bennion Center.

Additional duties and expectations will include:
  • Attend Bennion Center Student Leader Orientation
  • Keep open and timely communication with the Bennion Center Staff Partner
  • Meet deadlines given by Bennion Center Staff Partner
  • Utilize the KRONOS system for payroll
Minimum Qualifications
  • U of U student.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • This is a work-study position. Students must have been awarded a Federal Work-Study Award for the current year and be enrolled in classes at the U during their time of employment.
