Field Appraiser or Deputy Assessor
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Appraise improved or unimproved real property to determine value. Interview persons familiar with property and immediate surroundings such as contractors, homeowners and realtors to obtain pertinent information. Inspect property for construction, condition, functional design and take property measurements. Consider factors such as depreciation, replacement cost, value comparison of similar property and income potential when computing final estimation of property value. Consider location and trends or impending changes that could influence future value of property. Search public records for transactions such as sales, leases and assessments. Photograph exteriors of property to assist in estimating property value, to substantiate findings and to complete appraisal report. Prepare written report utilizing data collected and submit report to corroborate value established. Recommend measures to improve performance according to establishment policies and procedures.
APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must devote full time to the duties of the assessor's office and shall not engage in any occupation or business interfering or inconsistent with such duties. Experience in construction and/or appraisal required; computer knowledge and skills required; possess the ability to communicate clearly and tactfully with others. Must have a valid driver's license. Deputy Assessor applicants must be on the State of Iowa Registry. A completed County Application form and a resume are required.
